Personal Edge Fitness offers expert personal training to help individuals perform at their physical best, regardless of age or fitness level. Our trainers create custom programs for clients, tailored for their abilities and needs, whether the goal is weight loss, preparing for a marathon, or just wanting to feel better. Because of the vast needs of our extensive clientele, Personal Edge Fitness offers a wide variety of programs to create a personalized fitness program for each individual. Here are a few examples.
Strength Training
Strength training is the use of resistance to increase muscular contraction to build strength and anaerobic endurance. Strength training increases the strength of your muscles, maintains the integrity of your bones, and improves your balance, coordination, and mobility. In addition, strength training can help reduce the signs and symptoms of many chronic diseases, including arthritis.
For athletes, strength training is imperative. It is important to have a trainer who understands the demands of your particular sports as well as any limitations or injuries that you may have. With both former collegiate and professional athletes on staff, Personal Edge Fitness has the trainer to fit your needs.
An individualized senior strength program by Personal Edge Fitness will follow ACSM and AHA guidelines to safely improve your overall health. If you're not physically active now, a strength program will help you make all physical activities easier and more enjoyable.
Functional Training
Functional training has its origins in rehabilitation. Physical therapists developed exercises that mimicked what patients did at home or work in order to return to their lives or jobs after an injury or surgery. Our trainers use similar techniques to assist clients in performing daily activities, like climbing stairs, lifting groceries, and picking up children, more easily.
For athletes functional training is a must. Personal Edge Fitness trainers know how to adapt a sport specific training program for any athlete by using a wide variety of fitness equipment to replicate the same physical demands and challenges on the field.
Functional training involves mainly weight bearing activities targeted at core muscles of the abdomen and lower back which may lead to better muscular balance and joint stability, preventing the number of injuries.
Balance
Sense of balance or the ability to know where your body parts are in 3-dimensional space, is required for every movement we make. This complex system needs plenty of regular 'practice'.
As children we develop good balance by practicing balancing activities - walking along walls, jumping, spinning and climbing. As adults we tend not to give our balance system the practice it needs. Health problems can also weaken the balance system.
At Personal Edge Fitness we can train you to improve the proprioception within the muscles, just by creating a program that will keep your balance system challenged and healthy!
Core Training
Core stability training is essential to sports performance and injury prevention. The body's core muscles are the foundation for all other movement. The muscles of the torso stabilize the spine and provide a solid foundation for movement in the extremities. Training the muscles of the core corrects postural imbalances that can lead to injuries.
Personal Edge Fitness trainers will design your program to strengthen not just the abdominals but all 29 muscles that attach to the lumbar-pelvic-hip complex (LPHC), the thoracic spine, and the cervical spine. Core training is an ideal solution to bad posture, weak abs and low back pain.
Specialty Programs
Personal Edge Fitness also offers specialty training for those clients with particular needs.
Pre and Post Natal
Every step of the pregnancy is planned for maximum returns a healthy baby, an efficient delivery and a quick return to the pre-pregnancy body. Optimal fitness and health can be achieved, and maintained throughout the trimesters and beyond with a personalized pre/post natal fitness program.
Though every woman is different many of the physiological changes to the body during pregnancy are the same. The abdominal muscles relax during pregnancy in order that the rectus abdominus can stretch and separate. The rectus abdominus may lengthen by approximately 8in and the waistline may increase by approximately 20in. The muscles begin to realign as quick as four days after delivery but may take six weeks or longer to repair.
As your pregnancy progresses, the intensity, duration and frequency will decrease and your workouts will be adjusted to your stage of pregnancy and your energy level. Strong emphasis on abdominals, pelvic floor and back musculature will help make the entire birthing experience less taxing to the body.
Through a Personal Edge Fitness individually designed program you can re-gain stamina, strength and return to your pre-pregnancy body…or better!
Home Training
Not enough time to come to us? Then we come to you. You can work out on your lunch hour, or at any time of day that works for you. When you work out at home or in your office, you don’t have to compete with anyone, dress up for anyone, or work out to impress anyone. Having a trainer work with you can teach you how to properly use the equipment you have, motivate you (when you have the time and resources and just don’t do it anyway) and give you ideas of things you can use—right in your home—to improve your fitness and health.
Our personal trainers have years of experience in a variety of fitness settings and have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of clients. We are able to adapt your fitness program to work in any home setting and can even help design and equip your own home gym!
Sport Specific
No matter the sport, Personal Edge Fitness has the expertise to put you in top form and ready for competition. We are committed to optimizing athletic performance and reducing the potential for injury through comprehensive training programs that improve core strength and balance, increase explosive power, and enhance agility and speed in the sport of your choice. Our staff of former collegiate and professional athletes is also available for one on one instruction in all sports.
Massage Therapy
Massage is one of the oldest healing arts the benefits of which are varied and far-reaching. As an accepted part of many physical rehabilitation programs, massage therapy has also proven beneficial for many chronic conditions, including low back pain, arthritis, bursitis, fatigue, high blood pressure, diabetes, immunity suppression, depression, and more. And, as many millions will attest, massage also helps relieve the stress and tension of everyday living that can lead to disease and illness.
